This portrait of Raymond Pitcairn was painted by artist John Pike, who lived and worked in Woodstock, New York. The artist owned the John Pike Watercolor School in Woodstock near Glen Tonche, Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn’s summer home on Tonche Mountain. The portrait originally hung at Glen Tonche. Raymond is shown wearing casual clothing, with a violin mounted on the wall behind him. Music was an important part of his life and he played violin from an early age, as well as supporting young musicians, gifting instruments, sponsoring concerts, making recordings, and teaching music appreciation classes.
