This clock is of high quality production of portal clocks with stylistic features of the late Empire Clocks in the form of portals were a particularity of clock design in the Habsburg Empire in the 1810s and 1820s. Clockmaker Marcus Gohm, an Austrian who became a citizen of Varaždin in 1818 and worked in the town, leaving a considerable quantity of clocks with Empire and early Biedermeier stylistic features. A portal clock signed Marcus Gohm in Steinamanger is also preserved, telling of his activity in Hungary.
