Born in Northampton in 1954, David Hugh Cobley’s artistic journey began with a grounding in traditional art education at Wellingborough Grammar School and Northampton School of Art. A brief but formative period at Liverpool College of Art ended early, leading Cobley to pursue a unique path – an immersion in comparative culture during nine years spent studying in Japan.
