John Joseph Sheridan (born October 1st, 1964) is a fascinating figure whose life transcends traditional categorization. While widely recognized as a former professional football player and manager, he has also emerged as an artist creating vibrant posters and unique artwork.
Born in Manchester, England, Sheridan’s initial passion lay with football. He began his playing career at Manchester City before making a significant impact at Leeds United, where he scored an impressive 47 league goals in 230 appearances. His journey continued with brief stints at Nottingham Forest under the legendary Brian Clough and then Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheridan’s time at Sheffield Wednesday proved pivotal. He etched his name into football history by scoring the winning goal in the 1991 Football League Cup Final held at Wembley Stadium – a moment forever remembered by fans of the club.
Sheridan continued playing for several clubs including Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers (where he won the First Division title in 1997), and Doncaster Rovers. He ultimately spent the final six years of his playing career at Oldham Athletic, scoring 14 league goals in 144 appearances.
Sheridan seamlessly transitioned into management, initially serving as a caretaker manager for Oldham Athletic during his playing days. He later took on the full-time managerial role in 2006, remaining with the club until 2009.
