In 1945, he became a founding member of the Jeune Peinture Belge group, a collective born from the necessity to redefine Belgian artistic identity in the wake of World War II's devastation. By the late 1950s, the echoes of the influential CoBrA movement began to resonate within his work. The trajectory of Cox’s life took a dramatic turn in 1950 when he relocated to New York City. He famously believed that while technical skill could be mastered in a matter of months, true greatness resided solely in the depth of an artist's creativity.
