Born in 1961 in Jerusalem, an ancient city defined by its layered and often conflicting narratives, Rabah’s very origin is steeped in the complexities of identity and place. His artistic journey, shaped by his Palestinian heritage and a formative education at the University of Texas at Arlington, represents a profound intersection of architectural precision and conceptual inquiry. By blending the structural logic of architecture with the subversive spirit of fine arts, Rabah has developed a practice that does not merely depict reality but actively interrogates the mechanisms through which we perceive it.
Rabah’s creative evolution is marked by a move away from traditional representation toward a sophisticated mimicry of institutional power. He does not seek to capture scenes; instead, he constructs imaginary institutions—simulated biennials, museums, and auction houses—that serve as mirrors to the art world's own structures. Through these performative spaces, he explores themes of removal, erasure, and displacement. His work acts as a critique of how power dictates which stories are preserved and which are relegated to the shadows of history.
