Cristina Martos Vela (born December 22, 1983) stands as a prominent figure in the realm of Spanish illustration and comic art, recognized for her distinctive style characterized by evocative narratives and masterful execution. Her artistic journey began in Jaén, Spain, where she nurtured her passion for visual storytelling from a young age, joining the Viñeta 6 association—a collective dedicated to promoting comics within her hometown—and consistently contributing to its publications. This formative experience instilled in her an unwavering commitment to conveying emotion and narrative depth through imagery. Continuing her artistic pursuits at the University of Seville, Vela honed her skills in painting and sculpture, earning a degree in 2008. Further bolstering her credentials was a second prize awarded for comics from Caja Mediterránea, demonstrating versatility within the genre. Her creative trajectory reached new heights in 2009 with participation in “Desencaja 2009,” where she garnered the comic contest’s top honor for her graphic novel “Medusas y Ballenas,” infused with erotic undertones and published by Bizancio Ediciones—a bold exploration of themes and stylistic choices that solidified her reputation as a daring artist. In 2010, Vela received recognition at both "Valencia Crea 2010" and exhibited at the Trindade Gallery in Porto, showcasing her work at “La Feria Arte Lisboa” and “El XI Encuentro del Cómic y la Ilustración de Sevilla”—establishing herself as a respected artist within Spain’s vibrant artistic landscape.
