Collectible Description

This work is the result of my recent investigations on the aesthetic value of daily objects, which we accumulate around us or destroy when they are no longer useful, although they affect and modify our personal lives. It points at the ambivalent dynamics of a work of art as fetish object that implies a new relation between belief and critical thinking. Is it possible to consider an object, whether if it is a jewel or part of our outfit, as something more than “prisoner of its materiality”? What happens when we grant them a “soul” that gives them magical or transforming properties? This different sensitivity projects the evoking power of artworks, creating an enigmatic atmosphere in which a feeling of presence is, precisely, what resists the materiality of those objects. Illusiontale consists of eleven fetish objects made by hand that receive a symbolic meaning when they are used. Source: Itaú Cultural Visual Arts Award 2019-2020 Catalogue

Artist Biography

Luciana Rondolini: Exploring Consumption and Identity Through Multi-Disciplinary Art

Argentine visual artist Luciana Rondolini delves into profound questions about our relationship with material culture and selfhood through a captivating blend of mediums – photography, video, sculpture, and installation. Born in Buenos Aires in 1976, Rondolini’s artistic journey began at the Instituto Nacional de Arte (iuna), where she honed her skills under the mentorship of prominent figures like Hernán Marina, Fabián Burgos, Carlos Huffman, and Elsa Soibelman, fostering a foundation rooted in experimental art practices. Her formative years were marked by participation in influential workshops such as the Anti-Project workshop at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (2011), solidifying her commitment to challenging conventional artistic paradigms. Further enriching her artistic perspective were roles in curated projects like Fundación Proa’s inaugural Contemporary Art Clinics (2014) and Pac Project, focusing on contemporary art practices (2016), all based in Buenos Aires – experiences that nurtured her critical engagement with the creative process. Rondolini's exhibitions span continents, showcasing her work internationally—particularly in the United States—at galleries like Missionaria (Chicago) and Galerie d’Arte Fu (Miami), alongside local venues such as Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Fundación Proa, Miau Miau Gallery, Centro Cultural San Martín, Palais de Glace, Buenos Aires. Notably, she was shortlisted for the Petrobras Arteba Award in 2012 and awarded the Barrio Jóvenes Prize from Fundación ArteBA in 2013. Her involvement in events like Art Berlin Contemporary, Miami Project, Expo Chicago, Parc, Peru and Schwab Fairs underscores her dedication to fostering dialogue within the global art community. At its core, Rondolini’s artistic practice confronts us with a disconcerting observation: “Having” equates to “Being,” prompting her to scrutinize the products we consume—often deceptively presenting themselves as mere objects—and questioning their impact on our identities. This conceptual approach distinguishes her work from many others, prioritizing intellectual rigor alongside aesthetic innovation.
  • Influences: Rondolini’s artistic vision draws inspiration from Conceptual Art and Minimalism, reflecting a desire to strip away superfluous ornamentation and concentrate on fundamental ideas.
  • Technique: Her mastery encompasses diverse techniques—photography, video editing, sculptural fabrication, and installation design—allowing her to explore complex narratives across multiple sensory dimensions.
  • Notable Achievements: Rondolini’s exhibitions have garnered critical acclaim and cemented her position as a leading voice in contemporary Argentine art.
