Descrizione del collezionabile

The picture by Aleksandra Simińska, presenting a type of podium or stage, with the wings revealing a part of the distant landscape, is painted in the oil on canvas technique. In the colour scheme, there is a prevalence of the blue tones complemented by the diverse shades of grey. As a dominant colour, red appears present in the foreground and – as ulterior ones – greens and yellows. The architectural form, which is the principal motif, with steps or footlights leading to a kind of proscenium, is closed in both upper corners by the sheets of draped, heavy curtains. In the left part of the composition there is a vertical shape resembling a squat bottle. This imbalance in the proportions and scale between the elements of a still life and a landscape, and the manner of solids modelling with their perceptible weight, is reminiscent of the creation of Giorgio de Chirico. This connotation is also evoked by the ensemble of objects from a variety of seemingly incompatible worlds, and by a sort of ambivalence, indeterminate nature and destiny. But this clue leads even further, because the rigour of the convergent perspective, characteristic for many works of Aleksandra Simińska, always resulting in the widespread landscape on the horizon and the symbiosis of architecture and scenery (Tuscan?), seem to refer directly to the Italian paintings of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. [F. Pręgowski]

Biografia dell'artista

Aleksandra Simińska: A Painter Rooted in Tradition, Driven by Vision

Aleksandra Simińska (born September 5, 1962, Włocławek) stands as a singular voice within contemporary Polish art—a painter whose distinctive style fuses meticulous observation of the natural world with an unwavering devotion to artistic heritage. Her oeuvre delves into profound themes of memory, landscape, and human experience, often imbued with symbolic resonance, resulting in monumental canvases that command attention and invite contemplation. Simińska’s artistic journey commenced at the State High School of Fine Arts in Włocławek, where she cultivated foundational skills before pursuing higher education at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (1983-1988), specializing in painting under the tutelage of Janusz Karczmarski. This formative period instilled a disciplined approach to technique and fostered an appreciation for classical aesthetics—a bedrock upon which her subsequent artistic explorations would be built. Continuing her artistic trajectory, Simińska served as assistant lecturer at Nicolaus Copernicus University from 1989–1993, broadening her understanding of art history and honing pedagogical skills. Subsequently, she joined the Faculty of Fine Arts of Warmia and Mazury University in Olsztyn (1996-2006), assuming leadership of the Painting Studio and earning the prestigious title of Professor Nadzwyczajnego—a testament to her scholarly contributions and artistic excellence. This role solidified her commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering critical engagement with art, shaping her perspective on the role of education in cultivating creative expression. From 2004 to 2018, Simińska undertook extensive travels—to Vilnius, Madrid, London, Rome, New York, and Milan—expanding her visual vocabulary and encountering diverse cultural influences. These experiences fueled her artistic creativity and broadened her understanding of how art communicates complex narratives across borders. Notably, she participated in “Vanitas” exhibition at Municipal Gallery BWA in bydgoszcz, presenting monumental paintings inspired by the history of Aleppo—a project that underscored her fascination with exploring themes of resilience, loss, and remembrance, reflecting a deep connection to both personal recollections and collective histories. Her series "Aleppo" meticulously captures the textures and colors of the Syrian city, conveying not only its visual splendor but also its poignant narrative of endurance amidst adversity. Her artistic style distinguishes itself through a deliberate simplification of visual elements—large canvases dominated by geometric shapes—a technique reminiscent of Constructivism yet tempered with sensitivity to tonal nuances. Simińska’s meticulous rendering of landscapes incorporates subtle atmospheric effects that convey mood and texture, mirroring the influence of Cézanne and Picasso – masters who championed observation alongside imagination. She strives for harmony between reality and artistic vision, translating intricate ideas into visual metaphors that resonate emotionally with viewers. Recurring motifs—such as architectural details, chests, empty house interiors—suggest an interest in delving into psychological space and conveying unspoken narratives—a characteristic found throughout her oeuvre. Simińska’s work has garnered recognition for its innovative approach to painting and its ability to capture the essence of human emotion through color and form. Her paintings are not merely representations of the external world; they are explorations of inner landscapes—manifestations of memory, feeling, and contemplation—a testament to her enduring artistic legacy.
