Nato da genitori immigrati polacco-ebrei, Abraham e Rebecca Bomberg, a Birmingham. La famiglia si trasferì a Whitechapel, Londra, nel 1895.
Inizialmente studiò alla City and Guilds Technical Art School prima di formarsi come litografo a Birmingham.
