Born in Brussels around 1646, this artist—often affectionately known by the moniker Il Fiammingo or "The Fleming"—embodied a rare artistic synthesis. His career reached new heights through the patronage of influential figures like Agostino Bonisoli and the Bishop of Piacenza, Giorgio Barni. His ability to execute large-scale fresco works made him an indispensable asset to the local clergy, as he could transform the cold stone of cathedral domes into celestial visions. His work on the interior of the dome of the church of Santa Brigida in Piacenza serves as a testament to this period of immense productivity and technical mastery.
The crowning achievement of Robert de Longe’s career remains the breathtaking cupola of the Oratory of San Giovanni in Cortemaggiore, commissioned in 1705. This monumental project represents the absolute zenith of his artistic prowess.
