javier arévalo, a renowned mexican artist, was born on april 29, 1937, in guadalajara, jalisco, mexico. his early life was marked by a deep connection to art, encouraged by his grandmother, a traditional healer who also taught him various artistic skills.
  • at the age of ten, arévalo won first prize at a children's art contest in guadalajara, which sparked his passion for drawing and painting.
  • he began studying with jorge martínez, an assistant to orozco, further honing his skills in drawing, painting, and calligraphy.

artistic career and influences

arévalo's artistic career was characterized by a wide range of influences and mediums. he:
  • volunteered as a teacher of calligraphy and lithography at the academy of san carlos in 1955.
  • spent a year traveling along the coasts of jalisco and nayarit, capturing landscapes on canvas.
  • graduated with a degree in classical arts from the escuela nacional de artes plásticas in mexico city in 1963.
